Spring brings fresh green in the park and fewer visitors than summer. July and August are the warmest months and also the busiest. Autumn is quieter still, with colour in the park and the occasional morning mist off the Indre; winter is the calmest season of all, with short days and low light on the water.
The daily rhythm
Within any given day, the quietest hours are soon after opening and in the last stretch before closing — both also happen to give the stillest water for the reflection. The middle of the day, especially in summer, draws the largest numbers through the gate at once.
What changes with the season, and what doesn't
The interiors look much the same whatever the month. The grounds don't: the park is at its greenest from late spring through summer and bare and quiet in winter, and the quality of the reflection depends far more on how still the air is than on the time of year.
Reading the light for the reflection
The château's signature view — its façade doubled in the Indre — is sharpest in calm, low light, which is most reliable early in the morning or in the hour before the château closes. A breezy midday tends to break the water's surface and flatten the effect.
