By train from Tours

The SNCF Tours–Chinon line runs from Tours to Azay-le-Rideau station, less often than a mainline route, so check the timetable before setting out. The station is about 2.1 kilometres from the château — a walk through the village, or a short taxi.

By TGV from Paris via Tours

From Paris, a TGV to Tours or Saint-Pierre-des-Corps takes roughly an hour to an hour and a quarter, then the local Tours–Chinon line continues to Azay-le-Rideau. Door to door, allow two and a half to three hours including the connection and the last stretch from the station.

Driving and the Loire châteaux by car

By car it's about 35 minutes south-west of Tours on the D751, and around three hours from Paris via the A10. The château sits in the heart of the village, with several car parks nearby. A car is the practical choice for stringing together nearby châteaux such as Villandry, Langeais or Chinon on the same day.

Timings for the way back

The Tours–Chinon service thins out later in the day, so it's worth checking return times before leaving the château rather than after. Basing a trip in Tours, rather than commuting from Paris and back in a single day, removes most of that timetable pressure.
